NVIDIA AI accelerator market dynamics in Canada
NVIDIA AI accelerators are the most volatile residual-value asset in our pipeline — H100 prices fell ~25-35% from peak through 2025 as supply increased; A100 prices fell substantially as H100 became available; older V100 holds niche value but is no longer competitive at high-end AI workloads. We hold the trader-channel relationships for AI hardware across UAE, India, Singapore, Canada and Hong Kong; cross-border resale is the norm because local AI demand often cannot absorb at fair price within a single market. Quote validity is 5 business days because the secondary market re-prices weekly on supply / model-release / export-control news.
Cryptographic Erase on NVIDIA accelerator memory
NVIDIA H100 and A100 accelerators have on-board HBM (High Bandwidth Memory) that retains data through power cycles in some failure modes. NIST SP 800-88 Rev. 1 directs to Cryptographic Erase where the accelerator supports it. Maxicom executes the NVIDIA Confidential Computing key destruction (where SEV-SNP / TEE keys are in use), then runs the on-board memory test pattern that overwrites HBM content; for H100, the Confidential Computing key destruction is via the NVIDIA NVSwitch + driver stack. Per-accelerator certificate documents the SXM/PCIe form factor, the on-board memory state at retirement, and the key-destruction method.
US BIS export classification for AI hardware
NVIDIA H100, H200, A100 and similar high-end accelerators are subject to U.S. Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS) export controls (the October 2022 and October 2023 rules updated the threshold significantly). Cross-border resale of these parts requires export classification (ECCN), end-user verification, and in some cases licensing. Maxicom handles the export classification for the routing path, requests end-user statements where required, and declines transactions where the export licence path is not clear. This protects the customer from downstream-buyer compliance issues. Maxicom does not route NVIDIA AI hardware to entities on the BIS Entity List or comparable restricted-party lists.
Why two-business-hour quotes are not standard for AI hardware
Standard enterprise-server buyback quotes per engagement. AI hardware quotes 5 business days because: (1) the secondary market price moves on the announcement of new models (B100/B200 announcements, MI300 announcements); (2) export-control changes are frequent; (3) configuration depth (single GPU vs paired vs HGX/DGX 8-GPU systems) requires per-system pricing analysis. Send a SKU-level inventory; we return a written CAD quote within 5 business days, valid for 5 business days from issuance.
Settlement and engagement mechanics
Settlement is in your reporting currency (CAD) against your purchase order, line-item per asset, payment terms agreed in the SOW. Programme engagements run on milestone-based settlement against the rolling pickup schedule with monthly true-up. Cross-border engagements (where the asset routes between Maxicom operating regions) are consolidated to your reporting-currency entity through internal Maxicom inter-company arrangements; the customer-facing transaction is single-currency. The SOW is structured per the Maxicom legal entity that contracts with you (Maxicom UAE, Maxicom India, Maxicom Singapore, Maxicom Canada, Maxicom Hong Kong); GST / VAT / HST / withholding-tax treatment is handled per local tax law. Quote validity follows the asset class — 14 days for steady-state enterprise hardware, 5 business days for AI accelerators where the secondary market re-prices weekly, 30 days for memory and components. We re-quote without penalty where the validity has lapsed and the customer is ready to transact.
Audit defensibility and certificate format
Every asset routed through this engagement receives a per-asset Certificate of Destruction with eleven required fields: serial number, make/model/capacity, data classification at retirement, sanitisation method (Clear/Purge/Destroy under NIST SP 800-88 Rev. 1, with the specific technique cited), particle size or field strength or encryption algorithm where applicable, sanitisation tool + version + verification response, UTC timestamp + facility location, operator name + ID + signature, witness signature where present, chain-of-custody reference back to the pickup manifest, and the destruction reason where Reuse-First triage was overridden. Certificates are admissible against OSFI B-13, PIPEDA, NIST SP 800-88 Rev. 1, IEEE 2883-2022, and (where contractually specified) DoD 5220.22-M and NAID-grade Protocol — one certificate covers all simultaneously. Certificate retention is 7 years default, 8+ years for BFSI engagements, longer where the master service agreement specifies.
Cross-border resale routing under NDA
Where local market depth in Canada cannot absorb the retiring volume at fair refurb pricing, working assets route cross-border through Maxicom's trader-channel network — MENA → ASEAN, IND → ASEAN + MENA, CA → US sub-tier markets and ASEAN, SG → MENA + ASEAN. The routing decision is made per asset-class at engagement scoping; the customer sees the routing on the SOW and can opt out where channel-respect or sovereign-data-residency rules require. NDA discipline is standard. Surplus does not return to your own market's primary channel without explicit consent. Export classification (US BIS for AI accelerators; equivalent local regimes for other restricted-class hardware) is handled before the trade closes; restricted-party screening is part of every cross-border transaction.
Reuse-First disposition KPIs reported back to you
Programme-level engagements receive quarterly business reviews covering: total tonnage processed, Reuse-First reuse rate (% refurbished and redeployed vs % destroyed by media class), residual value recovered in CAD, embodied-carbon-recovered estimate (CO₂e avoided by keeping working assets in service rather than replacing them with newly-manufactured hardware), diversion-from-landfill percentage, material-recovery breakdown, and exception reporting. The reporting format is mapped to your sustainability reporting framework — CSRD ESRS E5, ISSB IFRS S1/S2, BRSR Principle 6, GRI 301/305/306, SASB IT services standards. Single-event engagements receive the same data as a per-engagement summary attached to the consolidated certificate. The reuse-rate metric is the most informative KPI: our blended cohort typically runs around two-thirds reuse rate (indicative); programme engagements typically improve year-over-year as the engagement learns the asset mix.

Frequently asked questions
What about NVIDIA H100 in HGX or DGX form factor?
Yes — HGX H100 8-GPU baseboards and full DGX H100 systems are accepted, priced at premium secondary-market rates because supply is limited. Quote validity 5 business days. Cross-border resale routes vary by jurisdiction — some routes are licence-required, others are not.
How do export controls affect the buyback price?
They can. Where the destination market for resale is licence-restricted, the resale path is narrower and the price reflects this. Where the destination market is unrestricted, the price is at market. Maxicom is transparent about the export-routing path on the quote so the customer understands how the price was constructed.
Do you accept NVIDIA Quadro and RTX professional cards (workstation)?
Yes. RTX A6000, RTX 6000 Ada, RTX A5000 and similar workstation cards retain firm residual value because the workstation buyer market is steady. Quote validity 14 days for workstation cards (less volatile than data-centre AI accelerators).
What about NVIDIA Tesla V100 — is the resale market still alive?
Yes, but at substantially reduced prices. V100 still serves specific niches (CUDA training / inference at lower power, lab/edu, secondary-tier AI deployments). Pricing is at 15-25% of original list. Quote validity 14 days.
Can you handle the entire AI cluster decommission (HGX systems + InfiniBand + storage)?
Yes. AI cluster decommissioning is a multi-asset engagement (GPUs + servers + InfiniBand switching + flash storage). We coordinate the entire pull under one SOW; AI hardware quotes through our AI Hardware Desk; servers/networking/storage through the corresponding buyback lines. Settlement consolidated in CAD against PO.
What about the NVIDIA accelerator memory — is it physically destroyed or just erased?
For working accelerators routing to refurb resale: NIST SP 800-88 Cryptographic Erase via NVIDIA driver stack; HBM is overwritten via on-board test pattern; certificate names the key-destruction method. For non-functional accelerators or where data classification mandates physical destruction: 0.5mm disintegration of the entire PCB including HBM. The path is per-customer disposition.
